Michael Traynor hails from Kinlough in north County Leitrim. While working in Limerick he earned his Private Pilot's Licence. Following his move to Dublin in the late 1980s he became a member of the Dublin Airport Flying Club and has been involved with that club ever since.
Following a career in finance he retired and has enjoyed many aspects of aviation ever since.
His interest in history resulted in his first publication, Through the Clouds over Limerick...... and beyond (1997). In 2004 he self-published Iona: Ireland's First Commercial Airline. He has produced several historical aviation articles for aeronautical publications.
Over the past four decades Michael has owned several general-aviation light aircraft for pleasure flying. In these aircraft he has flown to most countries in Europe. His latest accomplishment was travelling to Lapland and the Arctic Circle with his son Dáire. He is also an avid collector of books and other publications on the subject of Irish historical aviation.
Michael is grateful for the support of his family, Anne, Ross, Dáire, Aisling, Cian and Odhrán throughout the eight years he has spent researching and producing this book.
